I believe my ancestors offered their hospitality to Napoleon while his house was being prepared fur him. Dad’s brother Lawrence Porteous once wrote to the vicar. After a long wait, he received the reply, “After considerable research I have decided it is better to let sleeping dogs lie!” My father was Patrick Porteous VC. My 2nd cousin Peter Porteous is the family genealogist. Best wishes to you all.
Hello, I was doing some research on my family history and came across the mention of the Porteous Estate on saint Helena. I believe a Henry Porteous ‘East India Company Botanist’ bought the house but died in 1819. Two of my ancestors had the mention Slaves to the late Porteous Estate when they married in 1820.
